SUMMARY:Louis Riel Day - Community Cook
DESCRIPTION:WKMS is excited to host a community bannock and stew cook at Taghum Hall from 1-4pm in preparation for Louis Riel Day. Join us in community and in remembrance! \n___________ \nLouis Riel was a Métis political leader\, visionary\, and one of the most influential figures in Métis history. He dedicated his life to protecting Métis rights\, identity\, culture\, and self-determination during a time when Métis lands and ways of life were increasingly threatened by the expansion of Canada. Riel led two major resistance movements against the Canadian government\, standing firmly against the displacement and marginalization of Métis people. Beyond his leadership\, he advocated for language rights\, religious freedom\, equality\, and the recognition of minority rights. His courage\, sacrifice\, and unwavering commitment to his people continue to shape the Métis Nation today. For Métis people\, Louis Riel is more than a historical figure; he is a symbol of our strength\, resilience\, identity\, and ongoing fight for recognition and self-government.
